SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Southwest Harbor are looking for a man with autism who they say disappeared 09/23/10.

Police say Pete Peterson is about 6 feet tall and 230 pounds. The 61 year old has a grey beard, is balding, and sometimes wears brown glasses.

According to officials, Peterson walks with a limp and has a lazy eye. He was last spotted in town Thursday evening.

He was wearing blue jeans, a grey hooded sweatshirt, and brown shoes.

Police say Peterson frequently visits Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and other Mount Desert Island towns. He's even been spotted as far as Bangor.

If you see Pete Peterson, you're asked to call the Southwest Harbor Police Department at (207) 244-7912.

03/01/11 - The first thing I got was truck. I think he may have liked trucks and/or wished that he was able to have one at some time. I saw a weird shaped thing that sort of looked like a pipe but it had some kind of rods or poles or something sticking out from it. A box and then what looked like a backwards Z.

I heard the word Walbash or something that sounded like that. I started getting a feeling like he may have been mugged or "rolled" by someone for what little money he had on him. He may have hit his head and become disoriented.

The next thing I saw was what looked like a big drain pipe in a ditch. He may be somewhere in a ditch. He may have sat down or fell down. I then got a feeling of spring. Maybe he will be found come spring. I feel there is something else but I've lost it.

Is the pipe thing metal for sure? It made me think of bamboo then cattails. Cat Tails grow fairly freely here in rural ditches. That is what I think of so maybe it's the ditch thing.

He feels very kind but quirky. I felt like someone may have tried to help (perhaps after the mugging you felt or a bad incident) and he went "running" off. Felt very " hoppy" , flailing or jerky.

Then it's just gone. I'll try again later.
(Edited because I can't spell)

I do a lot of edits for the same reason! lol

I'm not sure about the pipe. When I was looking at some pictures I could see some telephone poles with these wires coming off of them, like ground wires with wrapping or something. It kinda looked like that but I can't be sure.

I just thought of something when I looked at your pictures and read your post Diana. Culvert pipes usually have flared ends secured in place by these things like you pictured.

I have this at the end of my driveway. I will get a picture of it for you...if it ever stops snowing here!!

Hmmm.. maybe. Everytime I drive past a big pipe going under the ground I think about Pete. I hope I'm wrong though and that they will find him alive very soon!

Poor man. He must have been so confused. I have often thought about those pipes being big enough to hold someone.

I hope that he will be found alive as well!!

Thank you Diana and Trueckl. Hopefully, when the snow clears more people will be able to get out and about and maybe he will be located. Mud season has just started here in Maine and water level in the rivers, brooks and ponds are high as the ice is starting to melt away. Was thinking if he where near a culvert or in one then maybe with the increase in water level and flow he might have a better chance of being found. I too have hoped and prayed he would be found alive and thought maybe the possibility that he might of gone out of state. But I would think if he did go out of state he would of contacted someone he knows in town. Thank you both for your insights it is much appreciated.

Pete has been on my mind and I've had the movie reel replaying. There is a young man. He's got a button front shirt blue that looks rumpled. Under is a tshirt- pale and I think gray or dirty white. Jeans. Long darkblond/pale brown hair which seems messy and maybe wavy. Dark colored stocking hat on his head. He's thin, pale and feels 'quiet" and a follower. The look reminds me of that whole grunge fashion thing. There are 2 other men but I only get glimpses. The last time it felt like I was viewing through his eyes. I think Pete got in for a ride. They may have been trying to mug him but they were also making fun of him/pushing him around. Instead of someone trying to help him after the mugging, I think this guy tried to stop but he knew he would be in trouble with them and get the same thing and finally stopped. I'm actually wondering now if the flailing is Pete opening the car door and jumping out- or perhaps they pushed him out. I feel like there is a young man who feels really guilty about this although he probably is more guilty by association. I wish he'd come forward but I think he's really afraid.
